The Rossmoor Computer Club, in conjunction with the Acalanes Adult Education Center in Walnut Creek, California, is one of the largest computer clubs in the nation. The officers and board members planned and designed the Computer Club with the goal of helping senior citizens become more computer literate, share information and keep abreast of computer developments. The Club is made up of computer enthusiasts who band together to learn, share experiences and serve the Rossmoor Community.

August 4th, Picnic
A great turnout of one hundred and twenty members and guests gathered for our annual B-B-Q at Hillside Sportsman’s Park. The weather was sunny and quite breezy, however that didn’t stop the events of the afternoon from an enjoyable time together.Prior to the meal, our hosted bar offering wine and soft drinks was well staffed by Club members Jan Barnes, Jim Bradley, Bill Hammond and Kathleen Doherty. And thanks to Bill Hammond’s wife, Annette for assisting.
Volunteers greeting guests, passing out name badges and raffle tickets were Jo Jones, Charlene Bradley, Helene Hall and Sandra Hjorth. The Club also wants to thank, Joan Semonsen, Betty Beaudet, and Miriam Schwartz who arrived early in the afternoon to help Board members set up the tables with decorations and nibbles and assist in cleaning up. Transportation of supplies and transporting guests to the Park, with their golf carts, were Betty Beaudet and Joan Semonsen. Lynn Letteris was our photographer for the event.
Every volunteer was recognizable to our guests by wearing a beautiful rose boutonnière, a thoughtful and unique gift from Monte Hall (our VP) and his wife Helene.
Catering by Simple Elegance was well orchestrated offering a choice of marinated tri-tip with a delicious BBQ sauce, smoked chicken, Greek pasta salad, baked beans, ice cream, lemon bars and cookies. Rounding out the meal with coffee.
As members and guests greeted one another our entertainer for the event John Convery was strumming up some background music on his banjo. When most of us had finished the meal Jack played of some of our favorite songs to sing-a-long with or, as several of us decided, shake a booty or tap a toe.

We are moving up
The Club classrooms and office we have on the lower level at the Acalanes Adult School will be moving up to the higher level during the summer. That is so the school buildings can be upgraded to meet State safety and access standards.
Meanwhile, your other Club services, at the Gateway Computer Center and elsewhere, will continue.
When the all the work is completed in about a year, we will return to classrooms that are earthquake-safe, with fire sprinklers, better wiring, and more importantly, there will be new restrooms nearby, on the lower level. We will even have a small elevator to go from the lower level to the school’s upper level.
During that time the Computer Club offices and classes will be in temporary space in Room D-7.
To get to Room D-7 on the upper level, you can drive out of Rossmoor and then up to the school parking lot. Building D is the first school building near the parking lot. An easier way may be to take a Rossmoor bus right up to the school.
(The lower-level gate and doorbell will not be usable after July.)
