Going Wireless

Our club payed for wireless (WiFi) in the Redwood Room as a demonstration, and after some months Rossmoor agreed to take it on and to extend it to a few other sites in some meeting rooms.

Now there is discussion of extending it throughout Rossmoor.  There is little hope of free wireless for all but it has been suggested that it be done on a mutual pay basis.

What do you think? Would you be willing to pay for a share for wireless for all?

  2. We have Comcast Internet and a router in our manor, and I have not needed to use community rooms for laptop or other WiFi devices. WiFi would be a convenience, but is it necessary?

  3. I think it is a great idea Wireless to homes is also a food idea if the speed is adequate. I currently use AT&T but find their service leaves much to be desired.

  4. Well I have Wi_FI in my home and do not need it else where but working at the computer club I have had many requests from people that would like a WI-FI setup they can log into like we have at some locations in Rossmoor for free. I think there is a need for this, and I think they would be willing to pay a small fee for access. My only objection is security,, the Rossmoor WI-FI that is in Gateway ,for instance, is not secure, therefore it is not a good Idea to use if for , let say, Banking or the purchase of any thing where you would use Credit card Numbers. Presently I use ATT and have had very few problems with them.

  5. I already have wireless in my home, would see no purpose in paying for additional service.

  7. This proposal seems to be widely misunderstood.

What is being proposed, is that any mutual that wants, may subscribe to Comcast WiFi for all of its manors at a significantly reduced rate. If a mutual doesn't want to do it, that mutual is free to opt out. For those mutuals that do want a great rate for all its manors, they may elect to participate.

For some mutuals, such as First which have a significant number of members who don't use the internet, this would probably be a bad idea as members who don't use the internet would be forced to pay for it. However, for some mutuals such as the one I am in where everyone subscribes to the internet, it's a no brainer. We would be getting the same or improved service that we now are paying for at a much lower price.
